The island of Tenerife has been awarded the prize for Best Spanish Destination 2026 at the Forbes Travel Awards, an accolade that highlights its “trajectory, leadership and contribution to the global tourism industry.” The CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, collected the award at the gala held at Forbes House in Madrid, which was attended by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu.
At the Cabildo (island council), the Vice-President and Tourism Councillor, Lope Afonso, stressed that this recognition “consolidates Tenerife as an international benchmark,” the result of a strategy based on quality, sustainability and diversification of the offer. Melwani, for her part, dedicated the award “to the whole island” and to the sector’s professionals who, through their daily efforts, make it possible to offer visitors a unique experience.
The awards, which are strictly editorial and independent, valued Tenerife’s privileged climate, its diversity of landscapes ranging from Tertiary forests to Mount Teide, and its ability to offer exclusive experiences all year round. The gala also served to recognise other leading names in the archipelago: the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort in Costa Adeje was chosen as the best gourmet hotel, while Paradisus Fuerteventura received the award for Best Resort in Spain.
From our business initiatives, we want to congratulate the Cabildo de Tenerife – especially Lope Afonso and Dimple Melwani – on the recent recognition of the island as Best Spanish Destination 2026 at the Forbes Travel Awards. This award, which highlights the quality, sustainability and diversification of the tourism offering, provides significant support for strategic projects such as the Parque Tecnológico Playa Paraíso and the future sports marina in the area. Both projects, conceived from a perspective of innovation and the blue economy, find in this award an impetus to establish themselves as benchmarks for sustainable and excellence-driven tourism, aligned with the strategy that today places Tenerife at the international forefront.
We would also like to thank Ramiro Rosón, our project secretary, without whose work we would not be able to publish such a large quantity and variety of content.
