Last Friday 15th November 2024, the coordinator of our business initiatives, Miguel Muñoz, attended the forum "Journey towards decarbonisation", held in the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín. This event, focused on sustainable tourism and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, provided us with an excellent opportunity to broaden our knowledge, meet experts and entrepreneurs in the sector and share our initiatives for the Playa Paraíso area (Adeje, Tenerife).
The programme of presentations was extensive and of high quality, which contributed to the success of the conference. Among the speakers was the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, who presented her vision of the future of the tourism sector in the archipelago. Our coordinator, Miguel Muñoz, emphasised the importance of this type of event to strengthen our relations with businessmen and experts in the sector, as well as to move forward with the projects we are designing for the Playa Paraíso area.
In addition to the Councillor for Tourism, Mariano Hernández Zapata, Regional Minister for Ecological Transition and Energy, and meteorologist Mario Picazo, well known for presenting the weather forecast on the Telecinco news channel, also took part in the event.
Picazo gave an interesting talk on climate change and its effects on the atmosphere, soil and water. In relation to the Canary Islands, he pointed out that changes in the atmosphere have led to an increase in episodes of calima and that climate change is causing the poles to melt and the temperature of the seas to rise, with obvious implications for ecosystems. For this reason, it is now more necessary than ever to practice efficient use of available resources and to take urgent measures to protect nature.
One of the most enriching moments of the event was the intervention of Guacimara Cabrera, manager of Oasis Wildlife in Fuerteventura. This zoo, which came about thanks to the initiative promoted by Cabrera's parents, is a clear example of how sustainable projects can contribute to responsible tourism. Guacimara brilliantly explained how this project has evolved in recent years, applying sustainability strategies in its operation.
At the end of the conference, our coordinator had the opportunity to meet Guacimara Cabrera personally and share with her our initiatives for Playa Paraíso in Adeje, which resulted in a very enriching conversation. It is worth mentioning that Cabrera knows the engineer José Luis Peraza Cano, water specialist, as he has worked on projects related to the Oasis Wildlife in Fuerteventura. José Luis, an important part of our team, is a reference in his field and has worked closely with companies and public administrations to improve sustainable practices in the management of water resources.
