From Friday 27 August to Sunday 29 August 2021, the coordinator of our business initiatives, Miguel Muñoz, and the lawyer and collaborator Ramiro Rosón made a cultural and gastronomic visit to the island of Gran Canaria. Both departed from Tenerife to Gran Canaria, using the ferry line of Naviera Armas, which connects both islands quickly by sea. This means of transport makes it possible to get closer to the neighbouring island and to promote inland tourism, especially in the current situation, when the COVID-19 pandemic requires compliance with a series of health protocols.
During their stay in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Miguel Muñoz and Ramiro Rosón stayed at the Emblematic Madrid Hotel. This hotel, being the oldest in the city and one of the oldest in the Canary Islands, has a long history since its origins and is near Triana Street, just a few metres from the historic centre of Vegueta, where there is a cultural heritage that we recommend you get to know.
On Friday 27th, they had lunch at the Terra Bella restaurant, near Triana Street, where they tasted excellent Italian pasta dishes and desserts. Later, at 20:00, they attended the show “La Otra Gala”, performed by the theatre group Anartistas and organised by the Cultural Department of the Telde Town Hall, in the Casa de la Juventud (House of Youth), placed in this Gran Canarian municipality. Finally, on Saturday night, they went to the penthouse of the Design Plus Bex Hotel, near Santa Catalina Park, where you can enjoy a terrace with a wide panoramic view of the city’s harbour.
On Saturday 28th, they moved to the tourist area of Playa del Inglés, enjoying a swim at the coast and visiting the Tipsy Hammock Bar, a nice place to relax and have a few beers. This place is well known in Playa del Inglés for its cocktails, food and great atmosphere. Afterwards, they visited the marina of Mogán and its Pueblo Marinero, a tourist and residential enclave that was born at the beginning of the 1980s and that nowadays, because of its canals, has earned the name of “little Venice” for the people of Gran Canaria. On Saturday night, they travelled to the Gran Canarian town of Artenara, where they enjoyed dinner at the bar La Majada, located in the historic centre of the village, and they saw the show “Juntos & Revueltos”, where the singer-songwriter Arístides Moreno and other Canarian musicians took part. We would like to highlight the work of the Artenara Town Hall in organising cultural activities like this in the island's interior, attracting many people to visit a village with undoubted gastronomic and heritage values.
Finally, on Sunday morning, the 29th, they visited the Casa de Colón, a house-museum in the heart of the Vegueta district, which tells the story of the four voyages that the famous navigator made to the American continent and houses a collection of paintings and sculpture from the late 15th to the early 20th century. After the visit to the Casa de Colón, they had lunch at the 18 Grados restaurant, which is also in the Vegueta district, and offers an extensive menu of gluten-free dishes.
In short, this is a different way of travelling from one island to another, getting to know the landscapes and tasting the flavours of the local gastronomy. This way of travelling allows you to appreciate the values of nature, history and all those elements that create synergies to promote municipalities that are far from the big cities, but which attempt to make their cultural diversity known.
