We are writing once again to the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry to expand on the information regarding the business initiative "Playa Paraíso 2010‑Adeje Technology Park," a territorial, tourism, and scientific development project that has been underway since 2010 in the municipality of Adeje, Tenerife. The project sits on an area of approximately 120,000 m² located on the Las Cancelas estate (cadastral plots 40, 50, 53, and the pond of polygon 8), within the Playa Paraíso area, a strategic location for the southern Tenerife region due to its capacity to generate synergies between the tourism, academic, and business sectors.
History of the drafting team: from 2010 to the present
Over the years, the initiative has benefited from the successive collaboration of several top-tier architecture teams. In its early stages (2010‑2011), the prestigious firm AMP Arquitectos took part, with architects Felipe Artengo and José María Rodríguez Pastrana, who made the first site visits and laid the groundwork for the project. Later, between 2011 and 2014, Annika Schollin and Juan Pedro Salcedo joined, raising the level of teamwork and advancing the processing of the Territorial Action Project (PAT, for its Spanish acronym).
It was with Annika Schollin and Juan Pedro Salcedo that the first presentation days for the business initiative were held on December 16, 2011, in La Laguna, where the progress of the proposal was unveiled through a program of talks and an informational brochure distributed at the Urban centers of Los Majuelos, the venue for that first gathering. A photographic record from that day has been preserved, taken at the Urban Center of Los Majuelos and included as an informational annex to the second day of those first sessions, along with the presentation brochure itself and the program of talks that structured the vision Annika Schollin and Juan Pedro Salcedo presented at the time regarding the progress of the proposal. A later article, published on April 28, 2017, would describe in detail the collaboration of both architects with the project during the 2011‑2014 period.
Alongside that fieldwork, in July 2012 a summary of the proposal was sent to the University of La Laguna, building on efforts begun in June of that same year to advance the project's processing. It was precisely in that June 2012 article that the list of collaborators on the ongoing initiatives was made public for the first time — a living list that has been updated ever since with each new addition to the team. That first list already anticipated the future addition of Juan de BIM, which would materialize once the article about project coordinator Miguel Muñoz's attendance at the training course where the two met was published; once that article came out, the list was formally updated with Juan de BIM's entry into the drafting team. This practice — publicly recording each new addition as soon as it is formalized — is the same one followed years later with the arrival of Juan Antonio Morales Zerpa.
Between 2013 and 2015, architect Jerónimo Padrón López brought his extensive national and international experience, with work published in specialized magazines such as L'architecture d'aujourd'hui and projects such as "Las Cascadas" for El Hierro. Since 2015, architect Alejandro Díez Martín has been developing the 3D model of the Technology Park, building on the work of his predecessors.
More recently, Juan Antonio Morales Zerpa has joined the drafting team. He is the manager of the company Bimseven and a specialist in Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology, which will make it possible to visualize all the graphic and technical information on facilities and infrastructure in 3D BIM format — a key element for the success of the final presentation. His addition to the team was formalized in stages: first, on July 8, 2026, joining the drafting team specifically for the BIM architectural method; then, on August 21, 2026, with the official communication of that addition to the Business Circle of Southern Tenerife (CEST), in appreciation of his commitment to this preparatory phase ahead of the second presentation days. In the drafting team's own words, this addition means that "the Playa Paraíso Technology Park consolidates its position as a space for innovation, collaboration, and multidisciplinary development, committed to technical excellence, institutional openness, and the active participation of society in its strategic projects." Alongside his professional profile, two entities linked to his work are worth noting: Bimseven, a consultancy specializing in BIM services for architecture, engineering, and collaborative design, and the BIM training platform DYM Canarias, with which a possible training partnership is being explored.
Jonathan Álvarez Rubio, an urban planning lawyer specializing in environmental and land-use legislation — an especially complex area in the Canary Islands given the particularities of its regional law — has played a key role in the legal development of the "Playa Paraíso 2010-Adeje Technology Park" initiative. His extensive experience has contributed effectively to various meetings of the drafting team, as well as to sector meetings with the regional and local administrations, providing the legal backing needed to steer the project within the current territorial planning framework. He also took an active part in the first presentation days of the business initiative, explaining to attendees how to fit the proposal into land-use planning alongside the work of the team's architects, serving as a lead-in to the subsequent presentation of the project's 3D model.

The project: two complementary lines of action
The project is currently organized around two complementary lines of action:
–Playa Paraíso 2010‑Adeje Technology Park – a center for leisure, training, and research linked to the full water cycle, renewable energy (with hydroelectric use of the pond and photovoltaic power), bioclimatic architecture, and sustainable land management. It is conceived as an R&D&I model that integrates the university into the business fabric, promoting the circular economy and landscape restoration. It includes facilities such as a thalassotherapy center, an ophthalmological institute, sports courts, a water management center with a museum, and a socio-cultural center.
–Future Marina with Marine Research Center – a port infrastructure (initially conceived as a jetty for sport and recreational boats) that would be built near the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, under the direction of architect Jerónimo Padrón López. The goal is to boost the blue economy, artisanal fishing, nautical tourism, and marine ecosystem research. To promote it, dedicated social media channels have been created: a blog (Marina Playa Paraíso), a Wix page, a Telegram channel, a Spotify playlist, and an AI-generated visual rendering. In addition to these materials, there is a dedicated strategy document for the future marina, designed to be attached both to the project blog and to its Wix page, in order to reinforce its promotion independently but in coordination with that of the Technology Park.
Relations with government bodies and academia
Both initiatives have been communicated to the Adeje City Council, the Canary Islands' universities (University of La Laguna, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and European University of the Canary Islands), and vocational training centers, with the aim of raising awareness of the project among students and the academic community and establishing internship agreements. Multiple meetings have been organized at the Hotel Laguna Nivaria (La Laguna) to explain the internship arrangements, and interest has been received from students of Law, Biology, Engineering, Architecture, Tourism, Business Administration, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Digital Marketing, Computer Science and 3D design, and horticulture and floristry, among other fields. Student participation takes place during the preliminary study and model-presentation phase, under the direction of the lead architects and with academic tutor supervision, with the possibility of arranging scholarships and regulatory agreements.
Along these lines, on March 21, 2025, the Playa Paraíso Technology Park team held an outreach event in Adeje to present the 2026 calendar and share progress on ongoing initiatives, also visiting the Adeje City Council; the event was covered on the blog in both Spanish and English. In addition, a meeting with the rector of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was expected, initially scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2025, and the team hopes for continuity in future meetings. These institutional efforts are in turn part of the marketing and outreach strategy defined at the start of 2025, aimed at bringing the project closer to potential investors, institutions, and the general public.
The international step: the visit to London
On the international front, a decisive step was taken in December 2018, when the project coordinator, Miguel Muñoz, made a week-long visit to London, from December 1 to 8, 2018. During that stay, on December 7, he held a meeting at the headquarters of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, located at 33 Queen St, London EC4R 1AP (phone +44 20 7248 4444), where he gave a brief but substantial presentation of the two business initiatives planned for the Playa Paraíso area. That visit, prompted by a marketing strategy based on externalizing the project's proposals in order to raise its profile in Europe and the rest of the world, was covered at the time both in the original Spanish-language article and in its English version published on the blog.
The reception was excellent; the London organization offered the possibility of a return visit at a future date with the proposed architects and their models, accompanied by feasibility studies and technical reports, to present them to potential investors. This first contact has since been reflected on the blog and in communications sent to the Adeje City Council and the Canary Islands' universities. Preparations are currently underway for that second visit, which is expected to take place as soon as circumstances allow, with the aim of externalizing the search for funding and securing the backing of international investor groups.
A recognized destination
In 2021, Playa Paraíso was named the best emerging tourist destination in Tenerife, recording a 117% increase in overnight stays compared to the previous year, reaching 686,743 stays, and a 151.7% increase in visitors. This data, published by Ashotel's Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability Observatory, reinforces the appeal of the area for a project of this scale.
Toward the second round of outreach days
The first presentation days for the project were held in 2011 in La Laguna, with the participation of architects Annika Schollin and Juan Pedro Salcedo, as detailed above. In March 2026, a complete overview of the project's 2010‑2026 history was published, and preparations are being finalized for a second round of outreach days, to be held both in person and via livestream, in order to reach the general public, government bodies, and investors.
For this final presentation, a two-day format is proposed, held at two complementary venues: the Guajara Campus of the University of La Laguna and the Costa Adeje Tourism Development Center (CDTCA). Both days will feature the simultaneous presentation of the two 3D models (using BIM technology), accompanied by talks on land-use planning, economic feasibility, marketing strategies, and Playa Paraíso's potential as a quality tourist destination. In addition, the presentation of both models is expected to be livestreamed simultaneously via the project's social media channels, in order to extend the event's reach beyond the in-person audience.
Funding and tax advantages
One of the pillars that make this initiative viable and attractive is the exceptional tax framework the Canary Islands offer through their Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF). As tax advisor Guillermo Núñez Villena, of Canarytax, S.L., notes, the REF allows both residents and non-residents investing in the archipelago to benefit from a tax burden far lower than elsewhere in the world. The deductions and allowances available for investment in R&D&I and the environment — two areas that fully converge in this project — mean the current regulations fit the initiative like a tailor-made suit. This tax advantage, combined with the obligation to exchange information with other tax authorities, makes the Canary Islands a legally highly competitive investment destination, comparable to a tax haven but with full transparency and legal certainty. This framework of tax advantages for investment and entrepreneurship in the Canary Islands is, in fact, one of the arguments regularly shared with investors interested in the project.
To cover the costs of drafting, feasibility studies, and model-building, six crowdfunding channels have been launched, allowing for financial or in-kind contributions. Support has already been secured from Litografía Drago (posters and brochures) and from law firms such as Aznar Abogados and Bufete Aledo, as well as from Coram Clairfield Corporate Finance and CLS Consultoría Luis F. Simó y Asociados in the search for investors. However, the key appeal for international investors lies in the ability to combine non-repayable grants, subsidized public loans, and, above all, the tax savings from the REF, which can potentially cover the entire investment, as noted in the articles by the project's experts. Thanks to its geostrategic position and its commitment to innovation, the Canary Islands are emerging as a global draw for this type of investment, according to analysts such as Miguel Ángel Ortega, founding partner of AF Innovación Canarias.
A multidisciplinary team
The drafting team also includes biologists (Paula Rivero, Ana Isabel Gómez), engineers, surveyors, geographers, philologists, renewable energy specialists (RIC Renovables, Disfoten 7 Islas), and tax advisors, ensuring a rigorous, multidisciplinary approach. An added asset of the estate is the presence of a pond for agricultural irrigation and a water gallery in the Las Cancelas ravine, catalogued by the Tenerife Island Water Council, which opens up possibilities for water storage and distribution in line with the circular economy and sustainability.
