The water elevator of La Gordejuela (Los Realejos) |
The water elevator located in the area of La Gordejuela (Los Realejos) is a work of engineering from the beginning of the 20th century, linked to the use of water for agricultural activities, and an example of industrial heritage in the north of Tenerife. Its state of ruin has led the Hispania Nostra Association, dedicated to the defence of Spanish cultural heritage, to include it on the Red List of cultural assets threatened by deterioration. This building can be seen on a beautiful hiking route that goes from Puerto de la Cruz to the Rambla de Castro area in Los Realejos and, in recent times, the press has even referred to it as "the most beautiful ruin in the world".
