Visit to Gran Canaria and institutional co-ordination with the ULPGC

Last Friday, 4th April, representatives of the drafting team of the Playa Paraíso Technology Park project made an institutional visit to the island of Gran Canaria with the aim of strengthening collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and exploring possible synergies with academic and tourist entities. The day began with the transfer from Tenerife to Gran Canaria via Fred Olsen, arriving in the vicinity of Santa Catalina Park at around 8:30 am. After a short coffee in the square, the group visited Las Canteras beach and El Cid street, where one of the buildings designed by the architect Jerónimo Padrón López is located.

Afterwards, the team went to the ULPGC rector's office in the Vegueta neighbourhood to hand over an information dossier on the initiatives underway linked to the Playa Paraíso Technology Park, with special emphasis on sustainable development and innovation in the field of tourism.

The day continued with a visit to the university campus of Tafira, where a meeting was held with the secretary of the Faculty of Marine Sciences. In this academic space, the proposal for collaboration with trainees was presented in the framework of the preparation of the second dissemination days of the project. Specifically, the aim is to integrate final year students to participate in the phase prior to the presentation of two 3D models, which will be directed by the architects responsible for the initiative.

During this meeting, the engineer José Luis Peraza Cano, an active member of the project since 2010, presented the technical aspects of the proposals being developed in Playa Paraíso, and shared his extensive knowledge of the integral water cycle, an area in which he has excelled as a lecturer and professional.

The visit also included a dialogue with a faculty researcher, reinforcing the importance of linking academic knowledge with innovative initiatives in the territory. The meeting was also an opportunity to publicly express the thanks of the writing team to the secretary of the faculty for her willingness and support.

In the afternoon, the team travelled to the hotel complex Gloria Palace San Agustín Thalasso & Hotel, an emblematic infrastructure in the field of health tourism at national and international level. Designed by a local architect, this hotel has become a reference for its thalassotherapy centre, which uses seawater transported from the coast. The visit provided an opportunity to view the facilities, although a further visit is planned for a more detailed exploration.
