The recent transformation of the old school of Puerto de Tazacorte into a Marine Biodiversity and Blue Economy Observatory is an initiative that not only puts La Palma on the map of marine research, but also serves as an inspiring model for other areas with coastal potential, such as Playa Paraíso.
This new center, promoted with the support of the Cabildo de La Palma and several scientific entities, will take advantage of a disused building to promote knowledge, innovation and sustainable development through the study of the marine ecosystem. In addition, it will be integrated into the Blue Economy strategy and will serve as a basis for future synergies with organizations such as PLOCAN, positioning Tazacorte at the forefront of oceanographic research in the Canary Islands.
This experience is similar to the proposal we have designed for Playa Paraíso: the creation of a sports marina linked to a marine research center. As in Tazacorte, the idea would be to transform existing infrastructures into centers that would generate qualified employment, promote scientific tourism and foster a respectful relationship with the marine environment.
The commitment to projects of this type is not only an investment in knowledge, but also in resilience, sustainability and future. The case of Tazacorte shows that spaces can be reinvented from innovation, with a strategic vision that combines science, community and environment.
