The marine biodiversity of the Canary Islands is a natural treasure of immense ecological, scientific, and touristic value. This underwater heritage not only enriches the identity of the archipelago but also represents a strategic opportunity to promote sustainable activities such as recreational marinas in coastal areas like Playa Paraíso (Adeje, Tenerife).
A remarkable example of the effort to disseminate this knowledge is the Guía de Biodiversidad Marina de Canarias (Guide to Marine Biodiversity of the Canary Islands), a valuable resource for both experts and enthusiasts of diving and marine biology. This guide highlights the richness of species inhabiting the Canary seabed, many of which are endemic or of special interest for conservation.
In addition, the program Canarias bajo el mar (Canary Islands Under the Sea), produced by Tenerife’s Canal 4, offers an audiovisual window into the archipelago’s underwater ecosystem. Its episodes provide a visual understanding of the beauty and complexity of these environments, helping to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting them and incorporating them into sustainable tourism projects.
These materials are particularly relevant for local development initiatives, such as the promotion of a recreational marina in Playa Paraíso. Such projects can combine the enjoyment of the marine environment with environmental preservation, promoting a model of responsible and educational tourism.
