On 7 March 2024, the coordinator of our business initiatives, Miguel Muñoz, and the lawyer and collaborator Ramiro Rosón visited the coastal enclave of Los Abrigos (Granadilla de Abona) to see the fish market located there. This facility, managed by the Fishermen's Guild of Granadilla de Abona, receives the work of artisanal fishing and facilitates its distribution and commercialisation among the general public, especially among the restaurants located in the area. Therefore, this corner could become a model place to promote sustainable development linked to the blue economy (i.e. the set of economic activities based on the use of marine resources).
The aim of the visit was to get to know the Los Abrigos enclave, taking it as a reference for the design of our future marina, which will be accompanied by a marine research centre, in the area of Playa Paraíso (Adeje). In this way, we were able to talk to members of the Fishermen's Guild of Granadilla de Abona and provide them with information about our business initiatives and the architects proposed to design their respective models.
At present, it should be noted that the Granadilla de Abona Town Council and the Canary Islands Government promote small-scale fishing, which offers consumers a zero-kilometre product, generating local employment and a lower impact on the marine environment, and promotes the development of the blue economy. In addition, small-scale fishing can contribute to the knowledge of marine ecosystems, facilitating the control of variables such as water pollution or marine fauna populations.
Finally, we would like to highlight from our visit the cafeteria La Dulce and the Italian restaurant Figu, which we recommend for its excellent customer service and its excellent thin-crust pizzas.
